The Beauty of Black Forest in Winter, Germany

The name conjures up images of a wild, isolated place where time passes slowly. The dense woodland of the Black Forest—Schwarzwald in German—stretches away to the horizon, but this southwest corner of Baden-Württemberg (in the larger region known as Swabia) is neither inaccessible nor dull. The Black Forest is known the world over for cuckoo clocks; the women’s native costume.

Swabians are the butt of endless jokes about their frugality and supposedly simplistic nature. The first travelers checked in here 19 centuries ago, when the Roman emperor Caracalla and his army rested and soothed their battle wounds in the natural-spring waters at what later became Baden-Baden.

Fifth Water Hot Springs in Diamond Fork Canyon

Fifth Water Hot Springs are located in Diamond Fork Canyon, which splits off from Spanish Fork Canyon. Total drive time from Spanish Fork, Utah is about a half hour on paved roads. At the trailhead, there is lots of parking and a bathroom.
fifth-hot-springs-Three scenic waterfalls and some very nice hot springs are located along Fifth Water Creek, which is a tributary to the Diamond Fork River. The hot springs are very popular and draw crowds on weekends during warm weather. Several soaking pools are available. The water is clear and you can vary its temperature by positioning yourself at different points in the pools, and by regulating the water flows into the pools. Warning: some individuals choose to soak nude in the pools. That is against the law, but it is common to see nude people here.

During winter, snow is usually well packed and you can usually hike to the hot pools without snowshoes. You will need a four-wheel-drive vehicle to reach the trailhead.

Spectacular Foss á síðu

Foss á Síðu is a spectacular farm mound approx. 10 km east of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. A beautiful waterfall falls from the cliffs above the farm, from a lake called Þórutjörn. This magnificent spectacle catches the eye of everyone that pass by. A passable hiking trail leads to Þórutjörn and from there the view of Síða is amazing.

The island is full of mesmerizing sites. Foss a Sidu – a gorgeous waterfall – is one of them. The falls is not very tall, but the surroundings make it a unique place to see. It also has a very unusual feature: because its stream is not very strong, sometimes, during very strong winds that come from the sea, it starts flowing uphill. A village is settled in the location and Foss a Sidu defines its landscape.

Bangkok Tour Guide

Bangkok is definitely an amazing destination to visit. Lots of people dislike it once they first arrive, however the more they become familiar with it, the more they adore it.

To start with, Bangkok can be quite in-your-face. You will find annoying traffic problems, overcharging taxi drivers and sleazy cafes. It is noisy, it is packed, and it’s dirty.

But when you’ve moved from the tourist areas, you will see another layer of Bangkok. An area that’s lively and vibrant, a town were modern and traditional world intertwine with each other, where people from all cultures and countries co-exist together. There’s a lot of tasty food, a great deal of artwork, many stories from long-gone occasions which wait to be discovered. Thai people are extremely friendly, kind and warm, and encountering their real warmth is an incredible experience.

Postojna Cave – Breathtaking Underground Landscape

The Postojna Cave lies below the Karst Plateau of the Notranjska region in Slovenia. It is one of the most beautiful caves in the world and the only cave that has an advanced electric train system. The Postojna cave system originates from the Quaternary period (1-2 million years ago). There are large dripstones (stalactites) and other Speleothems which have been possible because of the age of the cave and abundant rainfall.
postojna cave_Over the last 100,000 years alternating periods of worm and cold climatic conditions have occurred across Slovene territory. Several generations of calcite dripstone have been established:

– from the interglacial period (80,000 years ago)
– from the worm interglacial period (50,000-30,000 years ago)
– from the postglacial period (last 10,000 years).

postojna cave_1The youngest generation of stalactites are still growing today (one millimetre every ten years). Only the first part of the cave is without stalactites.
postojna cave_2The innermost depths of the cave were discovered in 1818 during the preparation for a visit by Austrian Emperor Francis I. A local man Luka Cec tried to place a sheet with a slogan and noticed the innermost parts of the cave. Newly discovered units were immediately arranged for the tourism purpose. In 1914 a train line with locomotive double seat coaches was installed. The breaking point for tourism was the year 1964 when a circular double line for an electric train was installed.
During the second world war the cave was used as a German fuel dump. In the 1944 Partizans entered the cave by the north side and set fire to it. This act blackened the stalactite formation in the initial adit.
The characteristics of the Postojna Cave are darkness, scant quantities of organic substances, high humidity (almost 100%) and constant temperature. In 1831 Luka Cec found an unusual beetle. The beetle was named Narrow neck and it is the first known troglodyte. The famous creature is the albino »cloveska ribica« which was believed to be the whelp of a dragon. Their bodies are usually pigmentless or white, they have no eyes. They can perceive the light with the surface of their bodies.
